Strategies to Increase the Value of Each Customer

March 31, 2008

Here is yet another snippet of what Derek Gehl talked about at the World Internet Summit I attended quite a while back:

- Up-sell and get 30% more customers to purchase a second product before they leave.

- Offer tick box, asking them to subscribe to another free newsletter/offer or other offer subscription at a cost.

- Offer on the thank you page - up to 15% off for second product instantly.

- Are you tracking the visitor to sale conversion rates on your ordering pages? You should be. 55 - 75% of shoppers will abandon your shopping cart or order form

- Lots of factors play into shopping and abandonment but there’s one simple way you can decrease this number;

- Boost sales another 15% by pointing out your order form security. If using Paypal, may not need to do that.

Never stop testing what you’re doing!!!!

Tracking your results

March 30, 2008

How do you know whether your results are good or not?

What is your goal for conversion ratio?

The info below is only a guide, but should give you an idea on how you’re going or what you should aim for.

2-4% if under $50
1% if at $50-$200
0.2 - 0.5% if above $200

A minimum of 11%-15% of your visitors should give you an email address!

If you’re not getting the stats above, then change what you’re doing until you are.

Your sales letter

March 29, 2008

Here are some tips I learned from Derek Gehl regarding your sales letter. Of course there are many other successful internet marketers out there using a different formula, but you will very likely notice they are quite similar.

Your sales letter must include:

- Your USP
- Attention-grabbing headline and sub headline
- Establish credibility
- Sell with benefits not features
- Transfer ownership - as if they had the product
- Remove the risk - offer a good guarantee
- Create added value with free bonus items - ebooks, info products, etc
- Create urgency and encourage immediate sales - give them a reason to order TODAY - rotate bonuses
- Ask for the order
- Make it easy for the customer to contact you
- Use effective formatting techniques to present your offer - keep it simple. Same font.

Model what others have done - why reinvent the wheel?

Web Development - What you get

March 29, 2008

These days we all know you must have a strong web presence if you want to get ahead in your business. The problem is, many people have no clue how to build a website, nor do they know how to add or modify content on their website or they think it is too difficult or time-consuming.

When we provide you with a web development service, we are not just about building you a website – we’re about creating an online business with a strong internet presence.

The benefits of being a CreateAnOnlineBusiness.com client are:

- We will register you a domain name (if you don’t already have one), saving you time and effort – we will even help you choose a name if you are having trouble thinking of one.

- We set you up with hosting, so you don’t have to worry about shopping
around or working out how to link your domain name to your hosting
account. Your hosting is included as part of your package.

- You will have unlimited free email accounts (we will set you up with 10 (if you need that many!) for no cost, and will teach you how to set up the rest!).

- We provide you with video tutorials on how to add and modify content on your site quickly and easily. This can easily save you hundreds if not
thousands of dollars in web development fees!

- We provide you with unlimited technical support whilst you are an existing client because we understand that your time is precious and you want your website to work for you, so we are on hand to help you if you get stuck.

- Forums and blogs are great ways to direct traffic to your website. These are included in your package if you require them.

- Search engine optimization – to help you attract targeted traffic to your website, we will make your site search engine friendly. We will also provide you with tips and hints on how to improve your internet presence.

- We want you to be completely satisfied with your new website and will do whatever we can to create one that suits your needs. If by some chance we are unable to satisfy your website needs, we will gladly refund your money.

It’s all well and great for me to tell you how great your website can look if we build it for you, but of course you will want proof, right?

The images below show you the seven themes all of our websites are based on. These are configurable, and your own images, logos and colours can be incorporated into the theme.

So let’s take a look at each of the options available to our web development clients:

Theme 1 - I love this theme! It is easy to configure, and each of the links at the bottom can direct you to three different page styles. This theme has a search box so your site visitors can search through your website.

Theme 2 - This theme is easy to configure and the featured part of the page (top left) allows you to select four different featured articles, products or stories. This theme allows for advertising, video, or you can even add in a photo gallery slideshow. This has an opt in box, using an RSS feed.

Theme 2

Theme 3 - This theme is very photo-friendly! As you can see, there are photos down the left hand side and even thumbnails down the middle of the page. On the right you can add video and even Google ads.

Theme 3

Theme 4 - Believe it or not, this is the theme I am using for this website. This theme allows you to add a featured article with image, there is room for advertising space (I have my opt in form in this space), and plenty of space to show article snippets.

To see this theme in action, visit www.michellegreensupport.com/theme4/

Theme 4

Theme 5 - This theme is very similar to Theme 3, but has a slightly different layout.

Theme 5

Theme 6 - If you’re a fan of Flickr, then this theme is for you! This site links direct to your Flickr account, showing specific images as set by you! This site is obviously very photo-friendly and should definitely capture your visitor’s attention.

Theme 6

Theme 7 - This theme has a very corporate look (well, it would if I had used different images!) and is image friendly too.

Theme 7 800

As you can see, our web development clients are set up with a fantastic looking website and believe it or not, they’re not out of pocket for thousands of dollars.

Having a website set up for you doesn’t have to cost the earth.

Short copy vs long copy

March 28, 2008

Here’s a question: How long is too long?

And the answer: When the visitor gets bored.

You need to keep your sales copy compelling and inviting!

This is a tip as told by Derek Gehl:

Use long copy if:

- You sell one product
- You sell a service
- You sell one type of product with limited variations

If you sell a few different products you are better off to set up a separate sales letter for each.

Use short copy if:

- You sell numerous items in a catalog-style format like amazon.com or similar

No matter what you do, you want your site visitors to stay awake while they’re there!

What is the most important part of the website to make serious money online?

March 27, 2008

Sales copy

Sales copy is your online salesperson, so it’s important it is written well.

If you get your sales copy right, there will be no need for any more traffic, meaning almost no extra work for you.

If you’re no good at sales copy, then now is the time to either learn how to do it, or find someone to do it for you.

Future posts will go into more detail on this subject as it is really important.

Where should your opt in form go?

March 26, 2008

Include an opt-in offer within the first fold of your web page.

You need to capture the contact information of visitors to your site so you can follow up with them.

Make the text in the opt in form look a little like a headline (smaller writing of course).

Important points to consider when writing your opt-in offer:

- Emphasize benefits, not features
- Include a call to action
- Include a link to your privacy policy

How Credible Are You?

March 25, 2008

You need credibility, otherwise why should a visitor to your website listen to you?

You must explain why you are qualified to help them or solve their problem. Show them you are “just like them”:

A great way to accomplish this is by telling a story. Tell them why you started doing what you are doing. Tell them what experience you have.

How is it that you understand their problem?

Testimonials are a great way to gain credibility.

For a most effective testimonial you should include specific, measurable results (plus full name website and state if available).

Eg: “Thanks for helping me choose the perfect colour to paint my living room! My friends are totally jealous that I saved $150 on designer paint. I’d recommend you to anyone who wants to redecorate!: John Smith, CA www.whateverdomain.com

What makes you stand out from the crowd?

March 24, 2008

What makes your product stand out from the competition?

Examples of this kind of Unique Selling Proposition (USP) are:

Fedex - promise to “get it there overnight”

Domino’s - guarantee “30 min delivery or it’s free”

So why should they buy from you and not the competition? What are you going to give them that the competition won’t?

Another important thing to consider is what you focus on:

Focus on benefits not features because people buy benefits not features.

It’s great that you’re offering all of this stuff, but what’s in it for the customer?

Make sure your strongest benefits are featured within the FIRST FOLD of your homepage too - it really has to grab them and keep them interested!

Once you’ve got them there you need to provide a clear “call to action” and ask them to “click here to order now” or whatever. Tell your visitors what to do and where to go (politely of course!).

Examples of a call to action might be:

- Read on to learn more about
- Fill out this simple form

It sounds simple but most sites neglect to actively direct visitors to the next step, which is why they just simply up and leave.

It doesn’t matter how old you are

March 22, 2008

Being an older person and not very computer literate, I wanted to build my own website, but I didn’t know where to start.

That’s when I found CreateAnOnlineBusiness.com. The instructions and Camtasia videos were clear and concise and showed me step by step how to build my website and drive traffic.

It was very exciting seeing my website taking shape, knowing that I’d done it on my own. It’s not yet completed but I’m working on it everyday.

I highly recommend CreateAnOnlineBusiness.com to get you started on the right path to building your own website.

You will get all the support you need to help you succeed.
